Dirty Hands, Clean Heart

Verse 1
She’s out there at the crack of dawn
Before the rooster even yawns
Got mud on her boots and dirt on her cheek
She’s the prettiest thing I’ve seen all week
Talkin’ to her tomatoes like they’re family
And Lord knows they grow ’cause they love her like me

Chorus
She plays in the dirt and I play in her heart
The most beautiful farmer right from the start
Her hands in the soil, mine reachin’ for her
The woman who feeds us, my whole world and more
Yeah she’s got a green thumb and a hold on my soul
My dirty-handed darlin’ who makes this house whole

Verse 2
She’ll show up to supper with mud on her nose
Swear she just planted three beautiful rows
I hand her a napkin, she hands me a squash
I married a garden goddess, my God what a catch
She names every pepper like it’s a close friend
And I fall more in love every day without end

Bridge
She don’t need diamonds, she just needs rain
A good bag of seeds and some Georgia red clay
She’ll feed this whole family from spring until fall
Lord that woman’s my everything, garden and all

Final Chorus
She plays in the dirt and I play in her heart
The most beautiful farmer right from the start
Her hands in the soil, mine reachin’ for her
The woman who feeds us, my whole world and more
Yeah, I thank God every morning when she walks outside
My dirty-handed darlin’, the love of my life

Outro (slow and tender)
Keep on playin’ in that dirt, baby
Keep on growin’ our world
You’re the sweetest, muddiest, most wonderful girl
